Why Do Horses

FAQs

How is the course structured?
Each mini-module has one Theory Day and a marked assignment. Theory Days are group sessions, taught face-to-face in a classroom-type environment. You will then complete the assignment at home in your own time. Each mini-module serves as a short course in itself. However, the mini-modules are designed to lead from one to another, so you are likely to get more from each mini-module, if you have also completed the one before.

How many mini-modules are there?
The Behaviour & Welfare Series is made up of 4 mini-modules:
  1. Evolution: Horse in the Making
  2. The Modern Horse: Behaviour & Management
  3. Through the Lens: Monitoring & Recording Behaviour
  4. In Practice: Welfare & Ethics

What experience do I need prior to enrolling on the course?
You don't need any previous experience or qualifications to enrol. However, we recommend that you start at the beginning of the Series to get the best from the material.

What level of difficulty is the course?
The course content is pitched at around Level 3 (which is similar to A Levels) but it is a short course so there is much less work to complete. We're aware that many of our Learners have not engaged in any equine behaviour courses before and so we set the course material accordingly.

Do I have to sign up to the complete Series at once?
The Series is designed so that you can undertake each mini-module at your own pace. You can pay for the Theory Days one at a time or book multiple dates, as it suits you. However, we recommend that you only undertake the theory for one mini-module at any one time, so it is advisable to plan your Theory Day dates accordingly.

How much does each mini-module cost and when do I pay?
Each mini-module costs £50. You will need to pay in full at the time of booking. Bookings are made online and course dates can be found on our Events page

What do I get as part of the course?
Each mini-module includes a Theory Day, content-specific Workbook, assignment pack, Tutor Support and Attendance Certificate.

What order should I complete the mini-modules in?
We recommend that you start at the beginning of the Series to get the best from the course material. Each mini-module serves as a short course in itself. However, the mini-modules are designed to lead from one to another, so you are likely to get more from each mini-module, if you have also completed the one before.

Do I have to submit the assignment to get a certificate?
You will receive an Attendance Certificate for each Theory Day you come along to. However, to receive the full Behaviour & Welfare Series Completion Certificate, you must submit and pass all mini-module assignments as well.

Do I have to complete the assignment from one mini-module before I can attend the theory day for the next mini-module?
You don't have to complete the previous assignment to progress to the next mini-module, but we recommend that you do in order to gain the most from each one.

How long do I have to complete the module assignment?
You will have 3 months to complete the assignment, following each Theory Day. You won't need anywhere near this amount of time, but many of our Learners work full-time and this allows the flexibility to fit study time around life's other commitments.

Should I complete all of the mini-modules at the same venue?
You can choose to attend mini-modules wherever they are available. All details are listed on our Events page.

Is the course accredited and can I use it for CPD?
The course is not currently accredited by an awarding body. However, this is something which we are looking at, as we feel it would benefit our Learners. For each Theory Day, you will receive a Why Do Horses Attendance Certificate. Once you have completed all 4 Theory Days and passed each assignment, we will send you
The Behaviour & Welfare Series Completion Certificate.
